MAKING HYDERABAD AS RETIREMENT CAPITAL OF THE WORLD

September 8, 2025

Namaskaram Revanth Reddy garu,

Developing the 4th City is an extraordinary policy initiative. Cities, however, grow inch by inch in particular directions. While the city is expanding in that direction, the land in between includes lakes and 110 G.O land. The pace of growth that you are hoping may not come quickly if it depends only on existing residents gradually moving there. I therefore propose that we invite 100,000 new residents who can directly settle in the 4th City.

In my childhood, Bangalore was often described as a retirement paradise. Today with its crumbling infrastructure, no one thinks of it as an option. The time has therefore come to position Hyderabad as a retirement paradise, not just for Indians, but for the world.

Proposal:

A. Campaign with the Central Government for a Golden Visa tailored to non-Indians who wish to retire in India.

B. Meanwhile, independent of GOI policy, promote Hyderabad as the world’s retirement capital, targeting:

  1. Overseas Telugus
  2. Indians from other cities
  3. Foreign nationals

C. Allocate a reasonable acreage of land in the 4th City and call for bids from developers and specialized companies to build multiple, exclusive retirement communities.

Trends In Senior Living

Across the world, aging populations are actively choosing the following retirement destinations

  • North America: Florida, Arizona, Texas
  • Europe: Portugal, Spain, Greece
  • South America: Costa Rica, Mexico, Panama
  • Asia: Thailand, Malaysia, Philippines

The main drivers are warmer weather, lower cost of living and availability of affordable health care.

Countries with Retiree Friendly Policies

Some of the above countries actively attract retirees through special visas, recognizing the long-term economic benefits of senior residents.

India does not yet have such a policy. However foreign nationals have found a way to settle here by establishing private companies and employing themselves. ( Goa). Until the GOI develops a dedicated retirement policy, Hyderabad can still be promoted.

Why Hyderabad Makes Sense

A. Best Infrastructure: Hyderabad arguably has the best urban infrastructure in India.

B. Best Medical Care: Our healthcare ecosystem is truly world class and also affordable.

C. Right Location: The 4th City is near to healthcare and also the airport, while still being away from the traffic. It can be developed as a green, serene environment that is suitable for retirees.

D. Access to Asia: Retirees from the West often want to explore Asia. From Hyderabad, most Asian destinations are just a short flight away. Especially during the two summer months they can travel to cooler places.

Conclusion

My request is that you take a sankalpam and make this announcement. Your bold vision for the 4th City can gain momentum not only from locals gradually relocating, but from a new influx of global retirees choosing Hyderabad as their home.
